2004-08-18 - 9:37 a.m. Here follows another New York scene, one of those I do not wish to repeat (this is nothing like the day I got to walk the little old lady across the street). Setting: Croton Falls MetroNorth station, 7:30AM Personnage: Me Scene: Low-rider car goes slowly by. I am ogling its wheels, wondering if they're just low-profile or if they really are as flat as they look, when I hear this incredibly literate remark from the passenger side of the car: "How *you* doin'?" I almost threw up. I mean, this remark is fine on a sit-com but god, in real *life*? Sheesh. Does that actually work for anyone? My pithy rejoinder: "Your tires are flat, you shit." Yes. Good morning to you too. Grumble grumble.
