first i must give credit where credit is due: last entry's aforementioned Great Offender did indeed show up to dinner with a belated giftee.
still, it harkens back to the time when i gave too much of myself, and that is both a good thing and a bad thing, but mostly a bad thing.
still, it's hard to not want to do good by others. the funny thing is, i'm not a big believer in heaven or post-life reward systems, so what's the big deal?
perhsps it's easier to subscribe to a belief system of just rewards. it's of course be nice if they could be reaped during one's lifespan on earth, and hopefully not before one is too demented and old to realize it or do anything about it.
we rode the harriman loop yesterday, in preparation for the Harriman tri next year. damn those are some big hills. still, it's a great loop, and incredibly beautiful. my legs are sore today, and my shoulders too. just goes to show you, it's a bad idea to let your bike out of your sight for too long. :)
today it's in the low 70s...not quite cool enough to be a proper fall day, but it's good enough for now.
we're having a bunch of people over to go apple picking. it should be loads of fun; jim's football game is on today, too, packers vs. giants, sod maybe the jets too.
now, it's not like i'm a big football fan, but i have to tell you, football season is a great excuse to get all your friends together.
did i tell you i've been doing five pushups everytime i let fly a swear word? my shoulders are killing me.
by the way, i've recently discovered that i am as dumb as a brick. i think i've been missing out on some critical parts of intellectual life. i mean, i've been reading a lot of literature and stuff, but good grief, the daily news has been escaping me lately.
it's very important this season, of course, as we are hoping to oust the shrub from office. during the debates he really made himself out to be a moron, and he was so unpresidential. i mean, really. c'mon, swing states! open your eyes!
i just don't understand how you can be a woman or a minority or at all concerned about the state of the union and still vote republican.
you can't be concerned about the environment, about the way the world perceives us, about the state of science, about history, or about the division of church and state. you can't advocate gays or immigration.
good grief.
republicanism just isn't what it used to be. under teddy roosevelt the government built the national parks system...what happened to that?
clinton wasn't much to speak of, either....it took him forever to declare arches a national monument, and it took gore forever to do anything about pigeon creedk after years of doing anything about it. and under clinton, the fish and wildlife service absolutely floundered...but it was led by a george-bush-sr appointed leader, so i'm not sure you can blame that entirely on clinton.
oh, sigh. i'm moving to canada.
