phew.
they say that you shouldn't ever sweeten green tea. i'd never tried it before today, and now i have, and i'm sorry. good thing there is always another cup of tea to be had.
good weekend. i had grand plans to go surfing with our good friend tom, but it turns out that no one is renting winter wetsuits.
i guess they just assume that everyone who wants to try winter surfing already has their own gear, which is kind of a silly thing, because wetsuits are expensive things, and they get to be pricier with each millimeter of thicknes added on, and who wants to buy such a noon-returnable item only to find out that you hate winter surfing and like to feel all your appendages and don't ever want to try it again? ugh!
anyway. so we didn't do that. we sat inside and enjoyed tom's incredible house, which he has decorated and appointed to the point of magazine-cover perfection. i mean, i knew the guy had good taste, but this was ridiculous. candles in every room and great quality furniture and matching towels to boot. goodness gracious.
yesterday was a bit of a wash for me. i had high hopes of getting back in time to do a "non-impact cardio workout" as specified by the Men's Health guide to a successful half-marathon (and as faciliated by a brand-new trainer from only the best boyfriend in the whole wide world!) but i crawled home, greeted jim, crawled into the bathroom to shower, and then collapsed on the couch shortly afterwards.
booze does bad things to you. phooey.
it was a great week athletic-wise up until then. things are getting down to the wire and i really must lay down the foundation for a good half-ironman. i do not want to finish back of the pack. although i probably will. this seems like a very hard-core group of folks. i mean, who wants to do a half-ironman in may when you could do it in august or something? hmmmm.
well. i will just have to do my best.
anyway. money is running out. i have two good queries out there, which really made me happy to dig up, and one good editing prospect. there is a magazine out there that will need a lot of help in the coming months, and i'm taking a huge gamble by working for them pro bono, especially if their funding doesn't come through, but i do believe in their overall mission and so i must try and work them into my schedule when i can. otherwise when the thing comes out on newsstands it'll be just another stupidly written magazine the likes of which there are already way too many out there. so.
i am really looking forward to the coming year. i think there will be a lot of good things on the horizon. at the very least, there will be good exercise and good competition and good friends, and that makes all the difference.
