Hmmm. Is very very chilly today, although not more so than the blizzard conditions we had over the weekend. It was loads of fun to walk around in fresh snow (Jim and I had a go of it Saturday night, when it initially was dumping snow like crazy). Fresh tracks! Wonderful. Also great opportunity to test out YakTrax, ingenius rubber thingys that go on over your shoe with steel coils wrapped around various parts to keep you from slipping and sliding. Of course I would ordinarily say that I had put the things to vigorous test whilst out on a daring 4-mile jog through the blizzard but I got yelled at the last time I went for a run along the road in the snow ("What? Do you have a death wish, woman? The cars slide? What happens then? Then you'll be flat! A squishy spot on the side of the road!") and so I have not attempted it as of late. In fact I have confined myself to the gym and the pool and the indoor trainer and am utterly bored because of it. Four and a half miles on the treadmill can't be any one's idea of fun, but Jody says that she's done about 10 miles on the mill before and so I must not really complain, as by the time I have to run ten miles rolls around, I am expecting it to be considerably warmer, damn it. The new training schedule is working out admirably. Jim has also jumped on the bandwagon. I do love my new trainer Scott-he is a fabulous being and is loads of fun so far. Of course I haven't actually met the guy but he *sounds* loads of fun anyway and so I am hoping that his guidance will help me to finish a half-Ironman. It should be said that I am utterly loath to hire a trainer. But I also must come to grips with the fact that I am far too spastic to attempt a rigorous training schedule of my own. Or maybe I am just lazy. Sigh. This weekend we played lots of Scrabble, went to visit the dogs at the local pound and drop off some spare sheets for them, and also went to the gym. And i think we did something else...oh yes. watched football, good grief. Sigh. I've been reading the very engrossing _Handmaid's Tale_ by Margaret Atwood. Utterly depressing. But fine writing of the sci-fi sort, which is weird. I didn't think she could write sci-fi. Guess I was wrong. Erm. Anything else? Tomorrow am off to see Larry-Larry-Bo-Barry for some dinner. He has a new kitchen--indeed, a new apartment--and I am plannig on helping him to christen his cooking equipment. We'll see how I do. Outdoor grilling would be preferabe but that's not allowed in NYC apartments. Also tomorrow: Big swim workout, gah.
